Gloria Peña, a Board Member of the Tarrant Appraisal District, brings a rich tapestry of experiences and a deep commitment to public service. Her professional journey spans over three decades, culminating in a rewarding 37-year career with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division, which she retired from in 2012. This adventure began when she was just 16, working as a Student Aide at the White Sands Missile Range, NM Training & Doctrine Command. A brief period at the University of Texas at El Paso's Contracts & Grants Office further honed her skills before she joined the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1983. Here, she took on various roles, from Program Analyst for Military and Environmental Programs, and the Programs and Project Management Civil Works Division, to Budget Analyst in Resource Management, and from Financial Analyst in Construction and Operations to Program Specialist for Operations as the Water Supply Business Line Manager.


Her academic journey at Northwood University was a pivotal chapter, where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, graduating Magna Cum Laude. This achievement not only demonstrates her academic dedication but also underscores her belief in the power of continuous learning and growth.


Community service has always been a cornerstone of her life. She's been privileged to serve in key positions across various organizations, reflecting her dedication to education and community development. Her roles have ranged from Secretary of the Society of American Military Engineers (Dallas) to leadership positions as President for the Arlington Independent School District Board of Trustees, and from Director of the Texas Association of School Boards to Founder & President of IMAGE de Arlington. Her efforts to advance the educational and Hispanic communities are particularly close to her heart.


She's extended her community engagement through her involvement with the Arlington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, MPAC of Arlington, the United Hispanic Council of Tarrant County, and Child Protective Services of Tarrant County Board, among others. Her work with organizations like Girls, Inc. of Arlington, Boys & Girls Club of Arlington, Arlington’s MLK Celebration, Arlington Community Relations Commission and the Rotary Club of Arlington has been incredibly fulfilling.


Currently, she's actively involved with the Rotary Club of Arlington, specifically with the Webb Scholarship Sub-committee, and she serve as a Director at Water from The Rock. Additionally, as a Member of the St Vincent de Paul Women's Guild, she continues to leverage her expertise and passion to make meaningful contributions to the community.


Her career in the public sector and her extensive community involvement are testaments to her dedication to service, leadership, and making a significant impact. As a Board Member of the Tarrant Appraisal District, she's committed to continuing this legacy of public service and community betterment, bringing her wealth of experience and dedication to each decision and action she undertakes.
